I decided it was time to go visit the building we had seen everyday since moving to Sweden but never been near. A building so tall it can be seen from our town 15 miles away. I guess that says more about the rural nature of Sweden than about the magnificent of the building.
But anyway, of we went in freezing temperatures. At first the kids were not impressed. Ida even refused to leave the car. But after some cajoling, we finally stood at the foot of the Turning Torso. The tower reaches a height of 190 metres (623 feet) with 54 stories. It is the tallest building in Scandinavia.
The kids melted, and were mightily impressed. Unfortunately we were not able to enter the tower, as most of the floors are made up of apartments, thus making it the tallest residential building in the EU and the second tallest residential building in Europe. An awesome sight, even by American standards with its unique architecture. I think it stand about 25 stories above anything else in Malmö.
A great day.
